Job Title

  • Catechist for the Elementary and Secondary Religious Education Program

Duties

  • Teaching the Good News as Christ Has Taught Us
  • Follow the Curriculum Established by the Parish
  • Maintain a Presence Before and After Classes to Welcome Students and Parents to Class
  • Assist With Special Events (Christmas Program, Parties, Etc.)
  • Keep Attendance Records and Report Absences for Two Weeks in a Row to Dff, Who Will Phone the Family
  • Make Photocopy Requests Early With Your Name a Week Before You Need Them
  • If You Will Be Absent, Please Call (928) 474-1269 to Enable a Substitute to Be Assigned. Please Let Us Know a Week or, if Possible, 48 Hours in Advance
  • Please Keep the Children in Class Until 5:30 P.m. Line Them Up at the Door, Walk Them Outside to the Porch or Lower Parking Lot, and Remain With Them Until Their Parents Pick Them Up
  • Please Always Be Prepared and Prompt So That We Are All in Classrooms Before the Children Arrive
  • Seek to Grow and Learn With the Children by Preparing Your Lessons in Advance
  • Duties Also Include Collaboration as Part of the Religious Education Team
  • Pray That God Will Open the Hearts of the Children and Families With the Gift of His Presence

Time Required to Be an Effective Catechist

  • Preparation Time: 1–2 Hours Weekly
  • Class Time: 1 Hour (Please Arrive at Least 15 Minutes Before and Possibly 15 Minutes After Dismissal)
  • Catechists Involved With Sacramental Preparation Will Need to Be Prepared for Additional Time as Needed: First Communion; Confirmation

Length of Commitment of the Catechists

  • The whole catechetical year, and preferably continue to be a Catechist for two or more years

In-service Training Provided

  • Attend Meetings as Scheduled With the Dff for Guidance, Direction, and Support
  • Mandatory Archdiocesan Safe Environment Clearance/training
  • Echoes of Faith

Qualifications and Special Skills

  • Love of the Lord and Love of Children
  • Be in Communion With the Catholic Church
  • Teaching Experience is Helpful but Not Mandatory
  • Willingness to Work as a Team and Collaborate With Others
  • Willingness to Share Faith and Nurture the Children’s Faith
  • Support and Explain Catholic Teaching to Students
  • Love of God and His Plan of Salvation
  • Registered Parishioner
