My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
One of the things that I may have failed to realize is that as a priest, we will have to say our “hello’s” and “goodbye’s” many times in our lifetime. While I always welcome entering into a new assignment, the one that I dread is having to say “goodbye”. However, while difficult, this is a part of our ministry - to move on to wherever the Lord knows we are most needed.
Thinking back on my coming to Payson two years and eight months ago, I had hoped that it would be for at least 6 years. But, as we now have seen, the Lord has other plans. I leave with the wonderful memories of braving with all of you the greatest challenge in recent memory. The Corona Virus pandemic has taught us many lessons – the greatest of which was that in times like this, our FAITH IN GOD has held us up…and continues to do so. I shall continue to cherish the memories of a beautiful land where every turn reminds us of God’s presence in the landscape and nature …. Yes, it includes the elk, who was well nourished with the roses that I tried to cultivate.
Indeed, it has been my joy – one that I will cherish till the end of my days – to have passed this way and had the privilege of having served St. Philip the Apostle Parish the best way I know how. I would simply want to THANK YOU ALL for having supported me and the parish in so many ways. Truly you all have been an inspiration that despite all the challenges that we faced together, we succeeded in keeping the faith. To all those whom I may have offended, I want to say “FORGIVE ME” for having failed you. On the other hand, rest assured, that I bear no ill will towards anyone who may have given me some “heartaches”. Please know that I continue to keep you all in my prayers and wish you all the joys in life.
Lastly, I would like to ask you to give Fr. Tom Quirk, your new Pastor, the same kind of support and affection that you gave me and the parish. I know that he is a very dedicated priest and a wonderful human being.
My blessings to you and all you love,
Yours affectionately in Christ,
Fr. Ricky V. Ordóñez
